The Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant supports emerging photographers using visual storytelling to highlight the ocean, marine life and the communities that depend on it.
The 2026 grant is looking for photographers who can combine compelling imagery with an impactful narrative, offering fresh perspectives on marine conservation.
Stories can explore wildlife and habitats, fisheries, coastal communities and other aspects of the marine environment and do not have to be shot underwater.
Funding
The selected grantees will receive a US$2,000 cash prize and a fully funded three- to four-week photographic assignment documenting an SOSF-supported marine research or conservation project.
The assignment includes:
A fee of US$350 per day.
Travel and other assignment expenses.
Direct mentorship from the Ocean Storytelling Grant Team.
An all-expenses-paid opportunity to present or exhibit the resulting work at a photographic festival or conservation conference.
The grantees retain copyright of the work produced during the assignment, subject to SOSF's agreed usage rights.
Eligibility
The grant is open to early-career and emerging photographers worldwide with no more than five years of professional experience in a photography-related discipline.
SOSF particularly encourages applications from women and gender-diverse photographers, photographers from the Global South, and communities historically underrepresented in conservation storytelling.
Applicants may apply individually or as a team, but only one application can be submitted per applicant or team.
Application requirements
Applicants must submit an online application in English, including:
A portfolio of exactly 20 images.
A photo story of exactly 10 images responding to a relevant theme.
Submitted photographs should accurately represent the natural world. Basic photographic adjustments are permitted, but altering images in ways that deceive the viewer or misrepresent nature is not allowed.
