The Sony World Photography Awards Single Image Competition celebrates the power of a standalone photograph. Organised by the World Photography Organisation, the competition is free to enter and open to photographers worldwide submitting single images taken in 2026.
Each year, the competition recognises outstanding photography across ten diverse categories, awarding category winners and up to 15 shortlisted photographers per category. One overall winner receives the Single Image Competition Winner title.
Funding
The overall winner receives $5,000 USD, a range of top Sony Digital Imaging equipment, and international media exposure.
Category winners and shortlisted photographers receive global recognition through inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards exhibitions in London and beyond.
Categories
The competition accepts entries across ten categories, including wildlife, street photography, architecture, motion, and the newly introduced Animal Portraits category.
Photographers should consider the category description when submitting their work, as judges are looking for strong composition, creativity, and clarity.
Eligibility
Free to enter and open to all members of the public
Images must have been taken in 2026
Up to three single images may be submitted per entrant
Images must be JPEG files, between 1MB and 5MB, saved in the sRGB colour model
Previously published, exhibited, or competition-entered images are eligible
