
The SAMPRA Development Fund is inviting applications from South African theatre producers, schools, institutions, and arts organisations seeking financial support to stage musical productions between 1 June 2026 and 31 May 2027.
Designed to support the development of high-quality musical theatre, the Fund contributes toward core production costs, including venue hire, costume design and hire, sound equipment rental, sound engineering, and marketing and promotion. Awards of up to R600,000 (excluding VAT) are available, covering no more than 50% of the total project budget.
Funding is subject to compliance with all reporting and documentation requirements. The musical production may not commence before the application closing date.
Who can apply
Eligible applicants must:
Be based in South Africa
Be SAMPRA members or professionals aligned with SAMPRA’s strategic objectives
Have staged at least two musicals within the past two years
Host the production at a SAMPRA-licensed venue
Demonstrate potential for local, regional, provincial, or national appeal
Only projects hosted in South Africa will qualify.
Applicants may not duplicate funding for the same project with another South African collective management organisation.

Applications must be accompanied by proof of company registration (CK document) and third-party quotations aligned with the submitted budget. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
