
The SAB Foundation is inviting applications for its 2026 Social Innovation and Disability Empowerment Awards, supporting South African innovators developing practical solutions to pressing social and economic challenges.
What’s on offer
Funding awards range from R300,000 to R1,300,000, alongside tailored business development support and structured mentorship to help scale and strengthen selected ventures.
Who can apply
This call is open to South African citizens (18+) who have:
A working prototype or early-stage venture
Demonstrated investment of time and/or resources into developing the innovation
A solution addressing a clear social or economic need
A model with potential for long-term sustainability
Eligible applicants include individuals, teams, social enterprises, entrepreneurs, and university departments.
Award categories
1. Social Innovation Award
For solutions addressing measurable social challenges, particularly those impacting women, youth, rural communities, or persons with disabilities.

2. Disability Empowerment Award
For innovations enabling persons with disabilities to access economic participation — including assistive technologies, skills development, income-generating initiatives, or inclusive employment models.

Previous beneficiaries of the SAB Foundation’s Tholoana Enterprise Programme are not eligible.
