Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, supports contemporary professional art and culture across Switzerland and internationally. The Foundation promotes creation, dissemination, and exchange in all disciplines except film, with a focus on transdisciplinary artistic practice, diversity, and sustainability.
Who can apply
Funding is available to professional Swiss artists and cultural practitioners, as well as festivals and event organising institutions of international importance that present Swiss musicians, bands, or ensembles. Internationally established ensembles performing works by contemporary Swiss composers are also eligible. Projects must have a clear connection to Switzerland and demonstrate national or international relevance.
What is supported
Pro Helvetia offers funding for:
International tours and performances
Festivals and events featuring Swiss musicians or works by contemporary Swiss composers
Collaborations and exchange projects between Swiss and local musicians
Scenic, performative, or installative musical productions from Switzerland
Creation and production grants for new musical work
Residencies, research trips, and networking programmes for emerging artists
Eligibility
Projects must:
Be developed or implemented by Swiss citizens, permanent residents, or institutions based in Switzerland
Have nationwide or international importance, contributing to the development and exchange of Swiss art
Be adequately co-funded by other public or private means
Guarantee fair working conditions
Ensure appropriate fees for participating musicians and professional standards
Applications are evaluated on professional independence, competence, social and thematic relevance, sustainability, diversity, and ecological responsibility. Projects are prioritised based on expected impact, quality of implementation, and contribution to Swiss artistic and cultural life. International relevance of the festival or venue and recognition of participating musicians are also key factors.
Funding amount
Grants range from CHF 25,000 to CHF 50,000 and generally cover travel and transport costs for Swiss musicians (excluding accommodation). If non-Swiss musicians perform works by Swiss composers, contributions may cover composition fees and performance costs.
Application deadlines
Pro Helvetia accepts applications year-round.
