
Entries are now open for the 2026 Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, which this year focuses on Documentary Filmmaking. The prize celebrates exceptional Nigerian filmmakers who use documentary storytelling to preserve heritage, challenge perspectives, and inspire social reflection through authentic narratives.
Open to Nigerian filmmakers worldwide, the award recognises creative excellence in non-fiction film and supports emerging voices using documentary practice to explore contemporary realities.
Under the 2026 theme, Identity, filmmakers are invited to examine questions of personal, cultural, and collective identity, and how these shape individual experiences, communities, and worldviews.
Prize award
The winner(s) of the Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts will receive an award of USD 20,000.
Eligibility
The competition is open exclusively to Nigerian filmmakers aged 18–35, regardless of country of residence.
Eligible submissions must:
Complete non-fiction documentary films
Have been produced between April 2024 and April 2026
Be original short documentaries not exceeding 20 minutes
Be character-driven works centred on individuals, communities, or social narratives
Exclude the use of AI-generated imagery or music
Only one entry per applicant is permitted. Previously submitted works will not be reconsidered.
Submission requirements
Applicants must submit:
A completed documentary film
A short artistic statement (maximum 250 words) outlining the story, vision, and creative process
Proof of Nigerian citizenship (passport, National Identity Card, or NIN)
Entries must demonstrate strong research, clear storytelling, and emotional engagement through character-driven narratives.

Upload the film or provide a secure viewing link
Attach required documentation, including identification, artistic statement, and consent form
