
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) in South Africa has officially opened its call for funding applications to support South African filmmakers and industry practitioners attending film festivals and markets taking place between 14 April and 31 May 2025. This funding initiative aims to enhance opportunities for professionals to promote their films and television products, share expertise, and boost the South African film industry’s global presence.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria to qualify for funding:
Attendance at a film workshop.
Screening of a project at the festival or market.
Participation in a festival or market competition.
Nomination for an award.
Invitation to participate in a panel discussion.
Pitching of a film project at a festival or market.
Funding amounts
The NFVF has allocated funding caps based on the type of event:
International film and market attendance:Â R50 000.00
Local (South Africa) film and market attendance:Â R20 000.00
Specific conditions apply to each funding category, and applicants should carefully review terms on the NFVF website before working on their applications.
Project and individual support limitations
A maximum of two international and two local festival or market attendances per financial year is permitted per applicant.
Only one representative per project per festival or market will be funded.
Individual applicants may receive support for one international and one local festival or market per financial year.
