Call for applications: NAC Annual Project Funding 2026-2027

The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) invites applicants for the Annual Project Funding for the 2026-2027 financial year. The NAC encourages arts practitioners to submit project proposals that educate, entertain, and inspire audiences, with a clear emphasis on community impact and public value.  

 

Eligible disciplines

Only one application may be submitted per applicant, whether as an individual or an organisation/company working in the following disciplines:


  1. Craft

  2. Dance

  3. Literature

  4. Music

  5. Theatre & music theatre

  6. Visual arts

  7. Multidisciplinary arts

 

Who can apply

  • Individual arts practitioners

  • Registered arts organisations

  • Community art centres

 

The proposed project should demonstrate clear relevance and public value, and address at least two of the focus areas outlined below. These priorities reflect the NAC's commitment to social impact, transformation, and sector development:

1.       Social cohesion and nation building

2.      Marginalised and indigenous arts

3.      Addressing social ills

4.      Supporting vulnerable groups

5.      New works and digital arts

6.      Capacity building and arts entrepreneurship

 

Funding amount

The maximum funding amount that may be applied for is R350,000. Funding will be allocated in accordance with the NAC’s redress and transformation imperatives.

and are reserved for applicants without internet access.

 

Important dates

-Closing date: 13 March 2026 at 23:59

-Outcomes announced: 29 May 2026

 

Safeguarding and compliance:

-Projects involving children or young people must include proof of safeguarding, such as police clearance certificates and/or parental or guardian consent.

-Projects involving persons with disabilities must show that the applicant has the skills, experience, training, or partnerships necessary to work appropriately and responsibly in this context. Failure to provide the required information may result in the application being disqualified or negatively assessed.
