Amount:

€30K

The Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac is a museum, cultural centre, and research institution in Paris dedicated to the arts and cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. Its photography collection includes more than 710,000 works, spanning from 1842 to the present.

The award promotes diversity in photographic forms and approaches, with particular interest in projects that move beyond conventional documentary or reportage frameworks. There is no thematic restriction, and there is no age limit.

Eligibility

The award is open to photographers and artists working with photography from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Individual photographers or collectives (the grant is shared in the case of joint projects)

  • European citizens residing in overseas territories and outermost regions

  • Applicants holding dual nationality where one nationality falls within the eligible regions

The award is not open to European citizens residing on the European continent, and previously selected applicants may not reapply.

Applicants may submit one project only per edition.

What successful applicants receive

Each selected applicant receives a €30,000 photgraphy award.

This amount covers research and production expenses, travel, accommodation, technical costs, the transfer of rights for the inclusion of the work in the museum’s collection, a daily allowance for the stay in Paris, and printing costs for the final photographic work.

Selection criteria

Projects will be evaluated on:

  • Originality and strength of artistic approach

  • Quality of references and professional experience

  • Coherence between the proposed project and the artist’s broader practice

While no recommendation is required, the award is intended for established practitioners rather than beginners.
