Call for Applications: Micro-Projects Scheme 2027

Amount:

€25K

The German Missions’ Micro-project Scheme provides funding for community-led projects that address poverty, improve living conditions and support marginalised or disadvantaged communities in South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho.

The scheme supports short-term, self-contained projects that respond to local needs and cannot be financed through existing government institutions, development partners or other available resources.

Funding

Projects can receive up to EUR 25,000.

Projects must be completed within the calendar year in which the grant agreement is concluded, and funds cannot be carried over to the following year.

Eligibility

The scheme is open to registered civic organisations in South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho, including community-based, non-governmental, nonprofit and faith-based organisations and foundations.

Projects must be new, self-contained measures that do not create ongoing financial obligations for the German Mission. Applicants must also contribute financially or through labour and self-help.

Funding is available for projects that contribute to:

  • Just energy transition and local economic development.

  • Alternative livelihoods, particularly in communities affected by the phase-out of fossil-fuel industries and small-scale farming communities.

  • Women’s rights, including access to education, healthcare, resources and representation.

  • Gender equality and anti-discrimination, including initiatives addressing discrimination based on sexual orientation or disability.

Projects that have already started are not eligible. Funding cannot be used to support government agencies, businesses or individuals to establish or improve private services or businesses.
