Call for applications: McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism 2026

Amount:

$15K

The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism is inviting applications for its 2026 McGraw Fellowship, which supports journalists and storytellers working on in-depth investigative or enterprise stories with a strong economic, financial, or business dimension.

The fellowship is designed for experienced practitioners who have a compelling story idea but require time, funding, and editorial support to carry it through. While traditionally framed within journalism, the programme strongly supports narrative-driven, public-interest storytelling, including work that explores inequality, corporate accountability, public policy, and under-covered communities.

What the fellowship offers

Successful applicants may receive grants of up to $15,000, along with editorial mentorship and support throughout the reporting process. Fellows work remotely and retain flexibility over their reporting schedules. The McGraw Center also assists with editing and placing completed stories in established media outlets.

Who can apply

While the fellowship is administered from the United States, applications are open to journalists internationally (Africa included), provided the proposed story aligns with the programme’s focus on economic, financial, or business-related issues, including the global impact of U.S. policy or corporate activity.

The fellowship is open to:

  • Freelance journalists

  • Staff reporters and editors

  • Journalists working in non-profit or independent media

  • Journalists from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply

Application deadline

The deadline to apply for the McGraw Fellowship is 13 April 2026.

How to apply

Applicants are required to upload a focused story proposal (maximum three pages) outlining the project’s significance, originality, and potential impact, along with relevant work samples, a CV, and supporting documentation as specified in the application guidelines.

Applications are submitted through the official online application form, available HERE.
