The Japan World Exposition 1970 Commemorative Fund Grant (JEC Fund Grant) supports projects that promote international understanding, cultural exchange and international cooperation, continuing the legacy of Expo ’70.
The programme supports public-interest projects with a meaningful connection to Japan, including international cultural exchange, international cooperation, education, academic study and eligible international conferences in the basic natural sciences.
Funding
The JEC Fund provides up to JPY 5 million per project.
Funding covers expenses directly necessary for the implementation of eligible projects, including payments and costs incurred in delivering the project.
Approximately JPY 135 million in total funding is expected to be available for FY2027.
Scope and approach
The programme supports projects that contribute to international understanding through:
International cultural exchange and enhancement of international goodwill
International cooperation
International education projects
International academic projects
Eligible international conferences in basic natural sciences
Projects should demonstrate a clear connection with Japan, public-interest value, international significance, realistic activities, and meaningful outcomes.
Projects must not be conducted as part of the applicant's regular business activities, for private benefit, or solely for research purposes.
Eligibility
Applications are open to:
Foreign national governments
Local governments
Other organisations carrying out projects that contribute to the public interest
Organisations do not need to have formal corporate status to apply. Individuals and profit-making corporations are not eligible. Each organisation may submit one application for one project.
Projects must take place between 1 April 2027 and 31 March 2028.
