The ifa Artists Contacts programme supports international exchange and collaboration in the visual arts, bringing together artists and cultural practitioners from Germany, countries of the Global South and countries in transition.
The programme supports projects that create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and the development of sustainable international networks. Mobility is approached as a way to build long-term partnerships, encourage new perspectives and strengthen cultural exchange across borders.
Funding
Funding is available to support the mobility of artists and cultural practitioners participating in international exchange projects.
For eligible participants travelling from countries on the DAC list, funding may cover costs such as flights, local travel, accommodation, visa fees, overseas health insurance and a daily food allowance.
The programme can support working visits, research trips, exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, lectures, conferences and other international exchange initiatives.
Scope and approach
Projects that promote dialogue, diversity, social cohesion and democratic values are particularly encouraged. Environmental sustainability is also an important consideration, with applicants encouraged to consider ways of reducing the environmental impact of international mobility.
Projects must demonstrate artistic quality and should have a clear collaborative or exchange-based approach.
Commercial projects, including activities connected to art fairs or the sale of artworks, are not eligible for funding.

The programme is aimed at visual arts projects that bring together artistic and cultural practitioners from Germany and eligible countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania through meaningful collaboration.
