Open call: Goethe-Institut International Coproduction Fund

Amount:

€15K - €30K

The Goethe-Institut has launched its International Coproduction Fund (IKF), designed to support partnership-driven projects across music, theatre, dance, and performance.

The IKF promotes partnership-based creative processes between artists and institutions outside Germany and collaborators in Germany. Through this programme, the Goethe-Institut encourages intercultural exchange, the development of new artistic networks, and innovative production methods within global contexts.

Who can apply

Applications are open to professionally active artists, ensembles, and organisations whose primary place of residence and work is outside Germany (excluding Austria and Switzerland).

Applicants may be individuals (natural persons) or legal entities such as institutions, associations, or organised groups. Nationality is not decisive; eligibility is determined by the applicant’s main place of residence and professional activity.

All projects must be developed in genuine, dialogue-oriented collaboration with artists, ensembles, or initiatives based in Germany.

What is funded

  • The creation of new productions

  • The development of existing productions

  • Projects in music, theatre, dance, and performance

  • Interdisciplinary or hybrid formats, including appropriate digital elements

Projects must demonstrate strong artistic quality and clear public impact. A collaborative creative process is a prerequisite, and applications must show balanced partnership in both artistic development and funding structure.

At least one public performance outside Germany is required, and where possible, one presentation in Germany is encouraged.

Funding amount

Funding ranges from €15,000 to €30,000 per project.

The IKF provides partial funding of up to 75% of total production costs. Applicants must present a sound financial plan that includes confirmed own funds, third-party funding, or in-kind contributions.

Projects not eligible

The fund does not support:

  • Purely commercial projects

  • Guest performances or tours

  • Residency-based projects

  • Music recordings

  • Film or exhibition projects without a performative element

  • Ongoing operational costs

Projects that have already begun, including those with signed contracts or confirmed bookings, are not eligible unless an “early start of measure” has been formally requested via email prior to commitments being made.

Application deadline

Applications must be submitted by 1 April 2026
