The Goethe-Institut has launched a call for artists and creative practitioners under the Africa–Europe Partnerships for Culture: Southern Africa programme, supporting collaborative projects that reimagine cultural heritage through contemporary practice.
This initiative invites creatives to engage with heritage narratives from across Southern Africa, working together in interdisciplinary clusters to co-produce new artistic works that reflect the region’s cultural diversity and contemporary realities.
Funding
Selected participants will receive €6,000 and take part in a six-month collaborative process, including in-person retreats, joint working sessions, and the production of three co-created artistic outputs. The programme covers travel, accommodation, and production costs.
Programme structure
Participants will be selected for Heritage Narrative Clusters, each comprising nine interdisciplinary artists from at least three countries.
Over a six-month period, participants will:
Take part in a one-week narrative retreat
Participate in two in-person working sessions
Collaborate online with fellow artists
Contribute to the co-creation of three artistic outputs (e.g. film, exhibition, performance)
Present the final works through public events
The programme focuses on collaborative storytelling approaches that explore both tangible and intangible cultural heritage in innovative ways.
