For emerging creative entrepreneurs, turning a promising idea into a sustainable business often requires more than funding, it requires the right support, skills, and networks. The BASA Debut Fund Programme 2026Â returns with a new cohort, offering young South African creatives the opportunity to develop market-ready creative enterprises through business incubation, mentorship, and milestone-based funding.
Running from July 2026 to April 2027, the programme will support 50 emerging creative entrepreneurs from across South Africa as they develop sustainable creative businesses.
Under the theme "From Idea to Market: Building Sustainable Creative Businesses,"Â Debut 4 is designed to help participants transform promising creative ideas into market-ready enterprises through structured business support, mentorship, and funding.
Funding
The Debut Fund provides milestone-based financial support linked to participants' business development rather than a single upfront grant.

The Debut Fund Programme is designed to help emerging creative entrepreneurs transform promising ideas into sustainable businesses. Through a structured development journey, participants will strengthen their entrepreneurial skills, refine their business models, and build the knowledge and confidence needed to take their creative ventures to market.
The programme places a strong emphasis on market readiness, business formalisation, and long-term sustainability, equipping participants with practical tools to grow resilient creative enterprises.
By focusing on young creatives from rural and peri-urban communities, Debut aims to expand access to entrepreneurial opportunities while contributing to the growth of South Africa's creative economy.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be South African citizens;
Be between 18 and 35 years old;
Permanently reside in a rural or peri-urban community in one of South Africa's nine provinces;
Be active creative practitioners with a clear project, product, or business idea to develop.
Eligible creative disciplines include:
Design and craft
Film and multimedia
Literary arts
Music
Performing arts
Visual arts
To encourage greater diversity within the sector, applications from Coloured, Indian, and White creatives are particularly encouraged for this cohort.
