Africa No Filter is inviting individual storytellers from selected African countries to apply for the Voices for Climate Justice initiative.
The 12-month programme is looking for journalists, content creators, podcasters, vloggers, muralists and data visualisers with creative ideas that explore the connections between climate justice, debt, gender and fossil fuels in Africa.
Selected participants will receive support to develop accurate, engaging and impactful stories rooted in lived experiences, research and local perspectives.
Funding
Selected storytellers can receive grants of up to $4,000 USDÂ to develop and produce their proposed content.
In addition to financial support, participants will receive training in climate justice, data storytelling and narrative framing, as well as mentorship and support to amplify their work.
Scope and approach
Africa No Filter welcomes a range of storytelling approaches and formats, including journalism, video, podcasts, vlogs, murals and data visualisation.
Applicants must submit a storytelling idea in the form of either a pitch deck of no more than five slides or a video of up to 60 seconds. The application should also include links to the applicant's platforms and information about the audience or community they intend to reach.
Applications can be submitted in English or French.
Eligibility
The call is open to individual storytellers who are based in Mozambique, Uganda, Nigeria, Angola, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Tanzania, South Sudan, Malawi or Zambia.
Eligible applicants include journalists, content creators, podcasters, vloggers, muralists and data visualisers.
Applicants must have an active and engaged platform or professional audience.
Content creators and data visualisers must have a combined audience of at least 5,000 followers across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and Snapchat, while journalists may demonstrate their reach through publication circulation or their professional platforms.
